Susan Hockfield and her disastrous secret agreement with the Koch brothers

Susan Hockfield and her secret agreements.

The question is, can I and would I and would it mae any sense or difference.

The 11 senior faculty being interviewed anonymously for this article describe what happened 8 years earlier, but only from the point of view of their own loss of power. They have zero interest in any specifics as to who is driving the change, what it represents.

… the Executive Committee would no longer be chaired by the president of MIT, but by the chair of the Corporation. This means de facto that the Executive Committee is no longer likely to be headed by someone with experience as an academic leader.

The lack of academic experience now extends to the entire Executive Committee where, at present, only one of the seven term members has significant academic leadership experience.

  • Not a single word is said about the unexplained resignation of Susan Hockfield on February 16, 2012 (https://hockfield.mit.edu/letters-mit-community).
  • Not a single word is said about the transfer of power from Susan Hockfield’s Executive Vice President & Treasurer Theresa Stone to the Koch Brother’s Executive Vice President & Treasurer Israel Ruiz, which took place on Oct. 14, 2011.

This is possibly the most consequential event in MIT history, the transfer of power from MIT to the MIT Corporation, the transformation of MIT from a non-profit research institution working in behalf of the public good to a for-profit corporation controlled by David and Charles Koch.

From 2012 to 2020, all power, all resources, all money ran through Israel Ruiz to the Koch Brothers.
